Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a woman reported being sexually assaulted in Bury St Edmunds.
The incident occurred at some point between 2:20am and 3am on Saturday 10 October, in the Parkway/Kings Road area of town.
The victim, a woman aged in her 20s, was walking alone – away from the town centre - when she was reportedly approached from behind by an unknown man who pulled her to the ground, touched her under clothing and sexually assaulted her.
A member of the public, a woman, is then reported to have come to the victim’s aid and helped her home. Detectives are appealing for this woman to make herself known to police as she may have information that can assist with their investigation.
The suspect is described as a man, aged around 40 years’ old, tall and of slim build with black hair. He is described as wearing grey joggers and a hoodie.
Detective Inspector Stuart Dolan-Allen said: “We understand this report may concern the local community, and we want to assure the public that we are investigating all lines of enquiry to identify the man responsible.
“There will be increased, targeted patrols in the area today and officers will also be conducting leaflet drops. Members of the public are encouraged to speak to uniformed officers if they have any concerns or information.
“We are reviewing CCTV opportunities and would like to hear from anyone who may have doorbell footage in the area that may assist with our enquiries. We would particularly like to speak with the woman who was said to have helped the victim home.
“We would urge anyone who can assist to get in contact.”
The victim is being supported by specially trained officers.
